Some Portage la Prairie residents are going to visit Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen's local office next Wednesday to advocate on behalf of a family from Ontario.

"They've been doing humanitarian work in Haiti and the Dominican Republic for a number of years. While they were there, they came across a young Haitian girl named Widlene. They went through a process to try and adopt her."

Wiebe says the family's been going through an incredible amount of red tape over eight years with nothing solidified as of yet to bring her to Canada.

He notes the campaign is to be held across the nation, with each protest being made at every riding's local MP office. Wiebe says they're bringing rolls of red tape, seeing as the government doesn't seem to have enough it. He adds they're also bringing along the message for the family.

Wiebe explains the issue hits close to his heart because he has a son whose family adopted a girl from Malaysia, and endured similar challenges with immigration. After the ordeal, they successfully brought the child home, and the child's become so much a part of the family, that he understands what the Earles must be going through in their inability to bring their daughter home.

The event takes place Wednesday between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
