A possible case of the Mumps at an elementary school in Portage la Prairie has been reported.

A Manitoba Health letter was sent home to parents and guardians of students at Yellowquill School Tuesday explaining details about the Mumps virus. Portage la Prairie School Division Supt. Todd Cuddington says an unconfirmed case of the Mumps was reported earlier this week at Yellowquill.

"The letter was just to caution parents that it was suspected and we don't have anymore details at this time," Cuddington explains. "But as a precaution, we wanted to inform parents."

"Right now, what we're encouraging all parents to do, just like Manitoba Health, is to make sure kids are receiving innoculations for these things."

The Manitoba Health letter explains the signs and symptoms of Mumps, how the virus is spread and prevention strategies.
