The sixth annual Prairie Wind Music Festival in Cypress River begins this evening, and carries on through Sunday morning.

Lisa Clouston's been with the festival since day one, and feels it's become something of a destination within the music community.

She admits five years ago, they wouldn't have expected that, but believes how they approach it makes a difference.

"We try to keep our volunteers happy, and we want our musicians to be happy as well," she says, "We encourage local vendors, local artisans, and it is a wonderful community event. There are two different groups having their school reunions there this year."

Clouston calls Prairie Wind important for Cypress River and the surrounding area.

"It's a tiny town, and this music festival supports our Cypress River Resource Centre," she says, "And it's great to have new people come to our town, and spend time in our area. It supports everybody, all the small businesses."

Clouston says this year's event's going to be fantastic, with an interesting blend of genres.

"We have Juno Award winner Joey Landreth," she says, "We have the Reverend Rambler, Double The Trouble -- a young Metis fiddling duo -- we have Lanikai, Roman Clarke, Ida Henderson and Andy Chamberlain, with Those Folks. Everything from bluegrass, to roots, to blues, to country."
