Two municipalities are teaming up, to help prepare for future growth in a community. The town of Grosse Isle, which sits on the border of the RMs of Rockwood and Rosser, is the focus of an upcoming study, as the municipalities believe the community will be growing quite rapidly in the near future. Rockwood Reeve Jim Campbell says they're splitting the cost of hiring a consultant, who will help ensure any growth within Grosse Isle is sustainable.

"We're hiring a planner from the U.S. and he's a very unique guy, he plans whole communities and it's a very long-projection concept plan for the community. He's going to come to Grosse Isle, spend a week with the residents, landowners around, and politicians, and he basically plans out not just a subdivision, but a whole community."

Campbell says the goal is to create growth in the community that's strategic, rather than simply having multiple housing units constructed. He says the main reason behind the decision to pursue a long-term plan, is that Grosse Isle is primed for growth in the near future.

"It's right near Winnipeg, and it's right along number six highway, which is a good highway. It has sewer and water which is still under utilized. There's lots of space in our lagoon. It's just a nice quaint little community. The Prairie Dog runs there, the volunteer base is phenomenal. The people that run that community for us are just great, and it's got a spirit of its own."

The cost of hiring the planner will be split between the two municipalities. Campbell says there's a real sense of excitement among the councils, given the vast opportunities for Grosse Isle's future.
