part of bringing awareness.

"Just more of an awareness thing. We've got t-shirts made up. And one of the slogans on the t-shirt is, 'Get your dog fixed.' We see so many animals in need, and a lot of it is if the dogs were helped along the way a little bit, by having them spayed or neutered, that would help get a healthy population of animals."

Brooker says it started after he inherited a pile of plywood from a store in Winnipeg.

"And I said, 'You know what? Let's make use of it and turn it into doghouses.' And that's what we're doing. We were here yesterday. We kind of prefab'd the doghouses. I've done this in Little Black River a couple of weeks ago. As you do them, you evolve into what works and what doesn't work. So, now we've got these -- it's almost like an Ikea doghouse."

Brooker adds he's currently organizing plans with the Brandon Humane Society.

"We do a lot to help the sick and injured animals. You learn why there are that many. So, we're going to try and work together with another agency to maybe do a doghouse build beside a mobile spay clinic. Hopefully we can do that this summer. We're in cooperation with the Brandon Humane Society So, they've got a mobile clinic, but it's not up and running yet."

He says they're trying to minimize the amount of unwanted animals. Jasmine Colucci is a nurse in Bloodvein who's helping the bring awareness for a few years. Brooker adds he's been at it for about 40 years.

Brooker says the doghouses are built with a sheet of styrofoam beneath the floor to help insulate them.  He says they set up somewhat of an assembly line for the kids, and mistinted paint has been donated by some retailers, as well as wood for the projects.  If you'd like to donate and give them a hand in their cause check out their Facebook page here: K9 Advocates Manitoba
