The RM of St. Laurent's excited about the construction of a proposed massive new fish plant that will employ about 300 to 350 people. Reeve Cheryl Smith says they received an update from Community Development First (CDF).

"We had the presentation from CDF who is currently proposing the fish plant for the RM of St. Laurent," explains Smith. "They provided an update and powerpoint presentation. Quite a few community members, mostly fishermen, came out and listened in support of what was going on. It's quite exciting."

She says CDF has the finances in place, and hope to acquire land and deal with Environment Canada in the process starting in May. Smith explains set-up will take about 40 months from start to finish, but the ball's in CDF's court, seeing as it's a private enterprise. She adds council will facilitate community engagement dialogue to keep everyone up to date with progress.
