The Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton council held a public meeting this week to get feedback from residents about the possible construction of a treated water plant and distribution system for Riverton. Reeve Harold Foster says most people at the meeting seemed to be in favour of the idea, noting the cost of the project will be somewhere between seven and eight million dollars and the municipality will be looking for a grant. Foster says they can apply for a "one-third" grant from Water Services but they're hoping to do a little better than that with a new program being introduced by the federal government.

He notes the folks who get on the new water system would no longer require water softeners or a pressure system. Foster adds Riverton's water is quite hard, so people have to use minerals with their private wells that are very corrosive and end up deteriorating the equipment. He says water from the new plant would also be guaranteed healthy, because it will be tested on a regular basis.
