The PRRA Santa Skate takes place this afternoon.

PRRA marketing coordinator Valerie Jones explains it's an annual event but this will be the first time in a few years that Santa Claus has laced up his skates.

"He hasn't really been up to skating in the past few years but this year he feels like he's going to be able to that and he's going to bring Mrs Claus along. Usually, he comes for about an hour and visits with the kids and gives out some treats and [you can] get some pictures taken, just bring your phone or your camera."

Jones reminds people to bring along their helmets and skates.

The event is free and parents are encouraged to join their children out on the ice. Santa Claus and Mrs Claus will be at the PCU Centre's main arena from 1:30 to 3:30 after which they'll head over to the BDO Centre from 3:30 to 4:30.
