Last night rain and gusty winds passed through the Portage la Prairie area, and through most of southern Manitoba.

There were predictions of up to 50 mm of rain yesterday, but what happened was generally less.

The official rain guage on top of Golden West's studios indicates 42 mm fell in the city.

Environment Canada's Dan Fulton tells us rainfall amounts varied, depending where you are.

"The airport in Portage got 30 mm. That can often happen -- there can be quite a difference between rain guages, even in a small area like that. Generally, anyway, in southern Manitoba, lots of 20's, 30's, and a couple of 40's mm of rain fell last night, with those thunderstorms."

Fulton explains what happened.

"There were quite a few reports from North Dakota and Minnesota of wind gusts of about 100 km/h, and some fairly large hail, things like that. But as it approached the border, those storms weakened, and all we ended up getting in Southern Manitoba is rain."

Fulton adds there were a few wind gusts up to 50 km/h in Portage last night was well.

The clouds are still with us today
