Persistent rains continue to cause issues for farmers in the RM of Grahamdale, Reeve Clifford Halaburda says.

Some areas have been hit with more than 20 inches of rain in recent weeks, and Halaburda says the water buildup is taking it's toll.

"Farmers can't get a lot of their crops up, can't get their feed off the fields for cattle," he says. "It just doesn't seem to quit raining."

Halaburda says they're hoping for some days of sunshine over the next month, as it will help alleviate concerns over potential flooding in the spring. Grahamdale has been dealing with moisture problems tied to heavy rains since early October, Halaburda says, and associated drainage problems. He says they have been working on upgrading the main drainage system in the area to help divert water away from fields.

"It is helping ... but if we could get some sunshine it would be great," Hallaburda says. "Right now it doesn't look good."
