The Town of Arborg's moving ahead in the battle against Dutch elm disease. Mayor Randy Sigurdson shares their latest strategy.

"Every year we have to go and spray the elm trees for Dutch elm. Again, we just had to hire somebody to do the job for us.  And that was done at the last meeting. I think it's about $2,500. There's a grant for that. They don't cover the whole thing, but they do help us with that."

Sigurdson says not all trees are rescued.

"It's always good to try and keep them alive as long as we can. There's no question about that. So, we do what we can and we try to spray all of the trees that we can. It's been ongoing, but we always still lose quite a  few trees as well. Some of them are being removed. We remove some ourselves, and we hire people to do others for us as well."
