The following is a summary of police activity in the Central Plains Area (Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities). The reporting dates are between July 3rd and July 9th. During this time period police responded to: 357 calls for service.

DRUNK DRIVER APPREHENDED
On July 3rd, Portage la Prairie RCMP were informed of a possible impaired driver on Saskatchewan Avenue, weaving in the lane and cutting other motorists off. Officers quickly located the vehicle and determined the female driver (56 years old) was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and her subsequent breath samples were nearly double the legal limit. The driver is now before the courts, her license has been suspended for a minimum of 3 months, and the vehicle was towed and impounded at the owner’s expense.

TREHERNE TOOL THEFT
Treherne RCMP are presently investigating the theft of over $10,000 in tools from a rural property in the RM of Grey. The tools were held in a construction trailer, which was broken into sometime overnight. MISSING ATV'S IN PORTAGE
Portage la Prairie RCMP are asking for the assistance of the community in locating two stolen all-terrain vehicles. Employees of the Richardson Pioneer Grains reportedly found two of their ATV’s stolen from their property on Hwy 16. The theft is believed to have taken place at 3:20 AM on July 4th. Investigators are asking that people be on the lookout for a 2010 Can-Am Outlander 400, last seen with Manitoba license plate 392Z5, and a 2015 Polaris Sportsman, last seen with Manitoba license plate 5F709. Portage la Prairie RCMP are asking for the assistance of the community in locating two stolen side-by-side off-road vehicles. Two Can-Am Mavericks were stolen from a rural property on Road 305 in the RM of Portage la Prairie. The vehicles, one blue 2016 model with Manitoba license plate 7G452, another yellow 2013 model with Manitoba license plate 2K154, were taken sometime overnight on July, 9th. CAR THIEF ARRESTED IN NORTH NORFOLK
Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to multiple calls of stolen vehicles overnight. In one instance the suspect was described a male youth, who attempted to steal several vehicles in the northeast part of Portage la Prairie. Police would receive a call shortly before 8:00 AM informing them of an abandoned vehicle in the RM of North Norfolk. When police arrived they found a vehicle which had been reported stolen earlier that morning, and the 15 year-old male youth believed to have stolen it. The youth was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle, and held in custody until such time as he could be released to a guardian. The youth is now before the courts on charges of theft, mischief over $5000, and failing to comply with court imposed conditions.

MACHETE ATTACK IN PORTAGE
On July 6th at 8:47 PM PM the Portage la Prairie RCMP were notified of an aggravated assault, with a single victim having been attacked with a machete. Police learned that the victim was assaulted at a residence on Alfred Avenue, where investigators determined that Grant Miles Kirby (33 years old) was the assailant in the matter. The victim is currently in stable condition after being treated for their wounds. Kirby is still at large on a warrant for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and failing to comply with a probation order. Police encourage anyone with knowledge of Kirby’s current whereabouts to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment at 204-857-4445, or your local detachment. CAR HITS WESTPARK SCHOOL
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to Westpark School shortly after 11:00 PM, on July 7th, as a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze reportedly drove through the wall of the building. The vehicle was abandoned by everyone who was inside, as everyone fled the scene on foot. SPEEDERS CAUGHT
A motorist was observed travelling at 139 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 1. The male driver (23 years old) was issued a fine in the amount of $561.25. Another was observed travelling at 143 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 1. The male driver (29 years old) was issued a fine in the amount of $613.00. Another concern the officer noted was that a small child was not properly secured in a car seat. A startling realization considering the speeds at which the driver was going. Should a collision occur, anything unsecured inside a vehicle will continue to move at the speed it was travelling. The driver was issued another fine in the amount of $299.65. A third motorist was observed travelling at 172 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 1. The male driver (41 years old) was issued a fine in the amount of $992.75. When asked why he was travelling so fast, the driver advised that he was in a hurry to get his borrowed vehicle back on time.
