DRUG IMPAIRED DRIVER
On June 2, a call of a dangerous driver on Hwy 1 brought police into contact with a 52-year old male who was under the influence of several drugs. The male driver was reportedly swerving all over the roadway, nearly sideswiping at least one motorist. When officers found the vehicle they pulled it over and spoke with the driver, who exhibited several signs of impairment. Investigators did not believe alcohol was a factor in this incident, instead determining that drugs were the cause of impairment. The RCMP utilize Drug Recognition Experts, who were called to establish what type of drugs the driver had consumed. In this instance the driver was held in police custody for their investigation, but was released after a short time, set to appear before the court at a later date.

DRUNK DRIVERS NABBED
Shortly before 9:00 a.m. May 30, Treherne RCMP stopped a vehicle on PR 305 in the RM of North Norfolk. Once in contact with the driver and passenger, the officer noticed that both were consuming beer. The officer checked the identity of both and was informed that male driver, 53, was presently disqualified from driving anywhere in Canada. The driver was arrested and taken into custody; the passenger was given a ride home. As the driver had been consuming alcohol while driving, the investigator asked that he provide a sample of his breath to a roadside screening device, which was refused. The driver was held in police custody until later that day, set to appear before the courts on multiple driving and alcohol related offences.

Treherne RCMP were patrolling Hwy 2 in the area of St. Claude shortly before 1:00 a.m. June 4, when they came upon a vehicle driving in an unusual manner. The vehicle was pulled over, where officers quickly determined that the male driver, 23, had recently consumed alcohol. A roadside screening device was used to determine that the driver was impaired by way of alcohol. The driver’s subsequent breath samples were over double the legal limit. The driver will have his license suspended for a minimum of 3 months, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for a minimum of 60 days at the owner’s expense.

The driver was issued fines for failing to stop and for driving without a valid license.
