The following is a summary of police activity in the Central Plains Area (Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities). The reporting dates are between Nov. 28, 2016 and Dec. 4, 2016. During this time period police responded to: 300 calls for service.

GRAND THEFT AUTO ATTEMPTS
Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call on Nov. 28 that a vehicle on Dufferin Avenue W had been damaged. The suspect/suspects damaged the door lock in gaining entry to the pickup truck. The suspect/suspects then damaged the ignition in an attempt to steal the pickup. If anyone has any information regarding this incident they are asked to contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP.

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call Nov. 28 that a car on St. George Avenue had been damaged. The suspect/suspects damaged the ignition in an attempt to steal the car. This is the second vehicle in that area to be damaged in an attempt to steal a vehicle. RCMP would like to remind residence to call the police if they suspect any suspicious activities in their area. Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call of an attempted theft of vehicle on 9th Street NW on Dec. 4. The Chevy pickup truck had the ignition damaged in the attempt. Anyone with information regarding this file are asked to call the Portage la Prairie RCMP.

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a second call of a vehicle that had been attempted to be stolen on Dec. 4. This vehicle was on 2nd Street NW near Saskatchewan Avenue. A window of this truck was smashed, the door locks were broken and the ignition was broken as well. Anyone with information regarding this file are asked to call the Portage la Prairie RCMP.

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a third call of a vehicle that had been attempted to be stolen on Dec. 4. This vehicle was parked on 11th Street NW. The interior lights were smashed and the ignition was damaged in an attempt to start the truck. Anyone with information regarding this file are asked to call the Portage la Prairie RCMP.

STOLEN VEHICLES
Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call that sometime overnight on Nov. 30, a white GMC Sierra 2500, licence plate CET-929 had been stolen from the 300 block of 8th Street NW. There were parts of the vehicle left behind indicating the suspect/suspects may have damaged the door gaining entry into the vehicle. Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call that a garage had been broken into Dec. 2, and a red, GIO MINI BEAST 200 CC quad was stolen south west of Portage. The owner did not hear or see anything at the time. Anyone with knowledge of this stolen quad is asked to call the Portage la Prairie RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and www.manitobacrimestoppers.com .

BREAK AND ENTER
Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating a Break and Enter to a residence near Oakville Dec. 4. The door had been damaged to gain entry. RCMP are still investigating this occurrence. Anyone with information regarding this file are asked to call the Portage la Prairie RCMP.

ARSON UNDER INVESTIGATION
Portage la Prairie RCMP along with Fire and EMS attended to a fire in a residence on 2nd St. NW in Portage la Prairie on Nov. 29. The Fire Department was able to put the fire out inside the residence. RCMP were informed by the Fire Department that the fire was intentionally ignited. Portage RCMP will be investigating this as an arson and will be looking for the help of the public. ALLEGED DOMESTIC ASSAULT
Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a domestic assault on Nov. 29 which occurred on 2nd St NW. When RCMP arrived, the person of interest had left. RCMP obtained statements to proceed with the arrest of a 29 year old male. The male was arrested a short time later and was released on documents to have no contact with the two victims and to appear in court on a later date.

ALLEGED ASSAULT
Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a business in Portage la Prairie on Dec. 2 for an assault that had occurred. The 21 year old male was angry and the male attempted to take some money from the business. The male then hit the female employee and left. RCMP obtained an arrest warrant for Christopher Donald Arthur Lanc RYYPPO who is believed to have moved to Dauphin.

BICYCLE BANDIT
A bicycle was stolen out of a shed on Dufferin Avenue in Portage la Prairie on Dec. 3. The make of the bicycle is a MARIN Belvedere with 20.5” hybrid wheels, black with red and white stripes. If anyone sees this bicycle, please call the Portage la Prairie RCMP.

STOLEN PROPERTY IN AMARANTH
Amaranth received a call of a stolen pickup truck in the rural area of Waldersee on Nov. 28. The White 1989 Sierra GMC was taken sometime within the last two weeks. A riding lawnmower, unknown make was also taken. If people in that area have seen any suspicious activities, they are asked to call their local RCMP Detachment

COLLISION IN TREHERNE
On Nov. 28, 2016, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Treherne RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Provincial Road 244 North. Initial investigation shows a southbound car crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a northbound SUV. The 62-year-old male driver of the southbound vehicle, from Winnipeg, was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The 33-year-old female driver of the northbound vehicle, from the RM of Norfolk Treherne, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Weather and road conditions are considered a contributing factor in the collision. An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

SNOW CAUSES ROAD PROBLEMS
Nov. 29 was the first significant snow fall for the portage and surrounding area. Portage la Prairie and surrounding detachments received many call of vehicles in the ditch. RCMP reminds motorists to drive to the road conditions at the time.

DRUNK DRIVERS NABBED
Portage la Prairie RCMP received a complaint of an orange Dodge Ram pickup truck driving erratically on Nov. 30 around Portage Collegiate Institute. RCMP officers were able to locate the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop. The 18 year old male from Portage was asked to provide a breath sample on a road side screening device and failed. The driver was taken to Portage la Prairie RCMP detachment where he provided breath samples that were in excess of the legal limit of 80mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. The driver was released to appear in court at a later time.

Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call that there was a vehicle driving in an erratic manner on Highway 1 near Portage la Prairie on Dec. 4. The vehicle was stopped and it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and taken to the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment to provide breath samples in which exceeded the legal limit. The 29 year old driver from Winnipeg was held until sober, his vehicle towed and impounded for thirty days and released on documents to appear in court at a later date.

THREATS UTTERED
Portage la Prairie RCMP attended a residence Dec. 1 because a 24 year old male from Portage la Prairie had made threats to assault the female resident. A warrant was obtained to arrest the 24 year old male for Uttering Threats. The male was located and arrested and released to appear in court at a later date.

GIRL FOUND SAFE AFTER AMBER ALERT
Portage la Prairie RCMP issued an Amber Alert for an 8 year old girl on Dec. 2. It was believed that the 43 year old biological mother had taken the girl. The mother had used a stolen pickup truck to take the child. Portage RCMP supplied the information to the RCMP Media in Winnipeg to have a press release prepared. RCMP also provided other provincial police forces with this information. With the help of the public, both were located safely by Winnipeg Police Service.

SPEEDY DRIVING
On Dec. 3, a motorist was observed travelling at 132 km/h in a 100 km/h on Highway #2 near St. Claude. The female driver, 18, from Brandon was issued a fine in the amount of $469.25 for speeding.

A motorist was observed travelling at 103 km/h in a 70 km/h on Highway 2 near St. Claude on Dec. 4. The male driver (65 years old) from St.Leon was issued a fine in the amount of $482.25 for speeding.

A motorist was observed travelling at 135 km/h in a 100 km/h on the Bypass around Portage la Prairie on Dec. 4. The female driver, 59, from the RM of Fisher Manitoba was issued a fine in the amount of $508.75 for speeding.
