A deteoriating roadway with heavy truck traffic in the RM of Portage la Prairie is getting a fresh pave.

At its meeting Monday, RM of Portage la Prairie resolved to initiate a professional services agreement with AECOM Canada Limited to oversee the Pavement Overlay project of Road 45W for $12,050. The project itself includes pavement resurfacing of a 750m stretch of road from the TransCanada Highway to access points for two major commercial operations. The price tag for the work is $450,000 with the RM financing costs through the Federal Gas Tax and Municipal Road Improvement Program.

"(There are) two major facilities there that handle a lot of truck traffic," RM of Portage Deputy Reeve Roy Tufford explains. "It's already hard-surfaced ... but it's starting to break down and deteoriate. We're going to upgrade it and make it more of an all-weather road."

Construction is expected to begin this summer.
