The recycling plant in Portage la Prairie should be up and running at normal operation in the coming month.

Portage and District Recycling Incorporated CEO James Bolton says they've been collecting the recycling and sending it off to be sorted and recycled.

"The fire was back on September 12th and now we're just waiting on the electrical and mechanical to get finished up, and once that's completed a company from Vancouver is going to be coming in to install the sort line. That's the last little bit that needs to be done before we're operational like we were before."

Bolton says explains what they've been doing while things were getting fixed up.

"We haven't even really had a line here. We did all the collection, then we bailed everything and shipped it off to another processor who does what we do when we don't have fires," Bolton laughs. "So that's kind of our make-shift response to the fire, but we're hoping by the middle of February we'll be back in operation the way we were."

He adds collection has been going well in the meantime.
