Over the next few months, two members of Long Plain First Nation will conduct a research project on last summer's tornado.

Chief Dennis Meeches says university students Robert Hamilton and Joyce Myran will examine the effect on the community.

"In terms of property damage, and how it affected people in general," he says, "Also how Long Plain First Nation -- the government -- responded to the evacuees that were displaced for quite some time. And, just in general, if there are any concerns, and any recommendations that could come forth from that."

One of the homes damaged last year

Meeches thinks the results of the project may give residents some sense of closure.

"Because it kind of takes a snapshot of what exactly happened there," he says, "And we have some young people from Long Plain First Nation doing the work. So, hopefully, we'll hear the good and the bad of it, and just take a hard look at that, and prepare, because we live in a very volatile region, when it comes to weather."
