Can excess use of technology in children be harmful?

Southern Health Sante Sud's Maureen Owens says spending too much time in front of a screen can be detrimental to a child's health, in terms of physical and mental health.

Owens says a child should not spend more than two hours in front a screen each day, adding this allows a child to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day and make social connections with others. She notes an excess of technology and screen use can also disrupt the sleeping patterns of children, not only taking away from the quantity of sleep, but also the quality of sleep.

Owens adds technology does have its place and can be a good educational tool when used in moderation and with supervision.
