Abe Bergen's looking forward to getting started as new Board Chair for Southern Health Sante Sud.

Bergen's been an avid board member around Manitoba for many years and explains how he stepped into the new role.

"I really look forward to serving the southern region in that capacity. In terms of process, I've had some experience in boardsmanship -- a health board -- I went through a vetting process and then was informed I was selected. I really look forward to serving."

He lists a couple of things that will help in his new role with the RHA.

"I haven't worked with the Regional Health Authority directly, but I did work with the Haven Group with elder care in Steinbach, I was on that board for a number of years. I've also been on the board for Steinbach Bible College, our denomination Evangelical Mennonite Church, as well as a Mennonite Foundation and a couple of other boards."

Bergen was appointed to the position just this week and says it's a little early to start thinking about changes he'll make.

"The appointment and the news is all pretty new and fresh, so I really look forward to getting oriented to the issues. Certainly, I enjoy boardsmanship and look forward to working with a team of people that have been appointed and we'll make sure we serve the region the best we can, and trust that we'll be good guidance for the people that are in touch with the patients day-to-day."

He feels his work through other boards will help him in his new position.
