The Interlake-Eastern RHA's looking for people to be part of their local health involvement groups.

They've been in place for the last couple of years, providing ideas and advice for the RHA Board's priorities.

Coordinator Pamela McCallum says the groups are important because they're composed of residents from the RHA.

"And they're people who care about health and health services. So, LHIGs exist to explore and provide input for our board of directors on issues that directly impact the delivery of health services in our region."

McCallum points out these groups have made an impact.

"Just this past year, we were able to put in a 1-800 number for all of our residents to be able to call in to find out emergency room information. That came from out of our LHIG group from the year before. Also, just more open communication."

July 31st is the deadline for interlake residents to get involved -- here's a link.

McMallum adds there are similar groups in most RHAs.
