Even though the Delta Beach campground's under construction right now, it's still seeing people using it for recreation.

That's a concern for the RM of Portage la Prairie, so Council's asking you to not use it during construction.

Councillor Terry Simpson tells us it's a safety precaution, due to the large machinery operating.

"And if we happen to strike somebody, Workplace, Health, and Safety will be out there, and we'll be shut down until an investigation is completed." he says, "So we need to have people understand that with big machinery, it doesn't mean they can see what's going on behind them when they start backing up or going ahead."

Simpson points out there are other beach options.

"There's one at St. Ambroise, and also out at Westbourne," he says, "There's a beach there that's at the north end of the Whitemud River. I think they can find some accommodations that would be a lot safer than what we have. I understand they would like to enjoy the summer, but we want to get this construction completed."

Signs are posted at Delta as well.

The campground and beach are slated to re-open next year.
