The RM of Portage la Prairie is getting Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) for water line work at Delta Beach campsites damaged in the 2011 and 2014 floods.

RM Deputy Reeve Roy Tufford says they already had approval and issued a tender for electrical lines to be installed at 25 sites. Tufford says since they were already digging, it made sense to do the water lines simaltaneously.

"There was a water system (before the damage), although it wasn't exactly the same type of water system," Tufford says. "So we went back to DFA and said 'we need to replace the water system,' and they agreed."

Tufford says the regional water system will be piped to each of the 25 sites under development. He adds more utility lines can be added in future as they move forward with planned expansion to 80 campsites. "It won't be all at once. But in the coming years we'll develop the whole campground," he says.
