The RM of Armstrong's looking at options for their main landfill site at Meleb, in the eastern part of the municipality.

Reeve Jack Cruise says that landfill's nearly at full capacity, so there's some urgency. He outlines what they're considering.

"We're still working on the final decision," he points out, "But probably what we're going to do for the present time is to raise the edges enough to give us another three to ten years of service out of the existing pit. We have some engineers' reports, and we either have to dig a new pit, or raise the edges."

He says a meeting's going to be held on the matter in a couple of weeks.

"And we're hoping to get some people from the province out to give us a little bit of advice," he says, " Raising the height of the current pit would maybe give us somewhere between three to ten years of extended life, whereas digging a new pit might be a 25 year deal, and we have to do some number-crunching."

Cruise stresses because the landfill's so full, it might not last the winter, without something being done.
