RM of Portage la Prairie council meeting this week highlighted a controversial discussion regarding a resident's plans for a mobile home in Delta Beach.

Reeve Kam Blight explains how Delta Beach's current allowance raises concerns.

"That was a very interesting public hearing that we had. Currently mobile homes are allowed at Delta based on a conditional use through the municipality. So, that's why this was here today. It's something that's very difficult for us to ascertain what is right and what is wrong."

He says council understands both sides.

"We do respect everyone coming and speaking today and expressing concerns. It really helps us to look into things, because if no one came in and said anything, then we just proceed. If there's no one that's concerned about it, and our council didn't see any major concerns, then our council would just proceed with it. Our council's going to step back and take a look. We're going to gather some information as to exactly what's being done in other areas. We want to review the actual building code or the codes that are in place for mobile homes to see what standards they must adhere to. But, you know, it is difficult. Who are we to say what people can do on their own property, and what something should look like and what something shouldn't look like? Beauty's in the eye of the beholder. So, we have to be very careful in playing that game. We need to take a look at the big picture here."

Blight adds they have to move on the issue quickly.

"We'll be making a decision at our next council meeting. We're not going to hold off on this with respect to the property owner. We have to act and move on this. We're going to gather some more information, we're going to discuss it some more, and proceed with a decision."
