The Town of Arborg approved a new service agreement for a backup generator at its water treatment plant during its council meeting Tuesday.

Mayor Randy Sigurdsson says the machine, called GenSet, turns on in the event of a power outage to ensure Arborg still has water. The three-year service agreement will cost about $5,000 in total, Sigurdsson says. Arborg had the GenSet installed at its treatment plant in 2015.

"The company we bought it from will come out and service it, check-it and make sure it's always at 100 per cent efficiency," Sigurdsson says.

The Arborg Mayor adds there are no operational issues with the one-year-old machine. The agreement is just to provide regular maintanence.

"It's just to grease it, change the oil and filters, and that kind of (work)" Sigurdsson says.
