RM of Cartier Council met with Morris MLA Shannon Martin this past Monday evening and discussed the issue of EMS station closures throughout the province.

"Shannon Martin, our MLA, attended," says Reeve Dale Fossay. "And we've communicated to him in writing some of our concerns. He was a very good listener tonight. He was not able to provide some of our answers to our specific concerns. But he promised to follow up with the appropriate minister. A meeting will be coming in the near future with some of the EMS staff."

Fossay says council expressed concerns, including Elie's location on the Trans-Canada Highway that's subject to closures.

He notes some things they learned Monday night include the plan for ambulances to be parked in various locations depending on the time of year and events taking place. The at-large posting of ambulances is called GeoPosting. The plan's to position ambulances in more strategic spots and add more staffing.

Fossay adds council's not convinced it's a better move and may visit the Command Centre for 911 in Brandon where GeoPosting will be organized to learn more, and perhaps alleviate its concerns.
