The RM of Portage la Prairie office is re-opening its doors to the public.

The decision comes after city halls province-wide have been opening up due to easing restrictions surrounding COVID-19.

CAO Nettie Neudorf says he RM has been working to find a safe and effective way to let people in.

"We've installed protective glass shields at the service counters, so there's a barrier between the staff and the customers, so both can conduct business in a safe manner. We have the mandatory application hand sanitizer before proceeding to the service counter."

The RM will also be limiting traffick, so only one customer can be in there at a time. This is to comply with social distancing regulations.

Neudorf says the RM has a dropbox outside for money and paperwork.

"People can still do their business outside of our hours and without even coming in. The box is checked regularly, so we can process any payments on time. We still offer online services through TelPay and internet banking. We have our pre-authorized debit and our e-transfer."

The RM has put a policy in place stating no one who has shown COVID-19 symptoms will be allowed to do business at their office.

Neudorf says the RM is excited to be back.

"We're looking forward to doing whatever we can to bring things back to normal as much as possible and still stay within the public health recommendations."

The office was officially opened to the public as of Friday, May 22.
