The sole shareholder of the RM of St. Laurent Community Development Corporation (CDC) appointed three new directors to streamline its efforts. Reeve Cheryl Smith says she's one of them, along with Deputy Reeve Frank Bruce and Councillor Monte Carrier.

"We're moving along,  adopting and finalizing our by-laws, which has been in the works for quite a few years  -- at least two years," says Smith. "And we're moving things forward that way. We're quite excited. It's going to be sort of removing a layer, I guess."

With Council directing the CDC, Smith says they don't have to go through that extra level, and can, therefore, speed things along more quickly. She notes a full-time economic development officer hired by Council adds to their efforts that much more.

Smith outlines one priority they're working on.

"One of them, of course, is the assisted living centre (aka Neil Gaudry Centre)," she explains. "That's one of our priorities to extend that facility. We have a huge waiting list of people waiting to get into the facility. I think that one is doable. It's something that's been in the works for some time."

She notes they also want to stimulate other commercial businesses they'd like to see in the community. Smith adds there are just a few things that need to be tied up with the province so they can work on some more.
