The RM of Woodlands council has given first reading to a by-law which will have the municipality borrowing money to install a low pressure sewer force main and service lines in the Hamlet of Woodlands. Deputy Reeve Ila Buchanan says the RM did a big lagoon expansion several months ago and they now have a large new manufacturing facility and a brand new Public Works building which have gone up in that area. Buchanan notes there are also approximately nine residences which have always just had holding tanks or fields, adding the RM has received a grant from the province to install the force main and give all those structures a direct line to the lagoon.

She says because this involves a borrowing by-law, council will now have to wait for approval from the province before they go ahead and give it second and third reading. Buchanan notes the municipality needs to borrow just under one hundred thousand dollars for the project, adding residents who hook up their dwellings to the new service lines can either do a lump sum payment or the cost can become an addition of an annual payment onto their property taxes. She says council would like to get this project underway by the fall and they hope to have it completed as quickly as possible.
