The RM of Victoria dealt with some overland flooding last weekend, like a number of other municipalities in the province.

Reeve Harold Purkess describes it as serious at the beginning.

"At one point in time, I think we had 11 roads closed, but we're incredibly fortunate, between Public Works and the councillors, they worked very hard, and we never lost any major structures, at all. Actually, the roads are now all back open. Some of them just needed a bit of gravel, some needed some grading, some needed a little fill and gravel, but we have no roads closed, so we're incredibly happy with that."

Purkess says the Assiniboine River caused some flooding, but the Cypress River in the south part of the municipality was the major problem.

"It flows in on the south end of our municipality, and cuts through the town of Cypress River, and eventually dumps into the Assiniboine. I think what happened is, it froze in fall, running, which it very rarely does. And then the melt in February, and the channel is half full of ice, and we had some ice jams that put a couple of bridges at peril, and it backed up water for miles."
