Last week saw RM of Coldwell Reeve Brian Sigfusson log a lot of miles on the road. He attended a series of meetings between Winnipeg and Selkirk.

In Winnipeg, he joined other municipal officials for an Association of Manitoba Municipalities gathering, over two days, and says they heard some good things from people like President Chris Goertzen.

"And other people that were involved," he adds, and continues, "And how the government is going to try to work together better, more hands on. Really, I'd have liked to hear they're going to try to  cut out a lot of this red tape on different projects. And then we got some good advice on how to re-furbish our roads with thinner asphalt, and I kind of liked what they had to say."

In Selkirk, Sigfusson was part of an Emergency Measures Organization meeting, where water levels on Lake Manitoba dominated the discussions.

"At that time, it was below 813 (feet above sea level), now it's up at 813.2," he says, "They tell us they don't expect it to even get to 814, but I know if they don't shut that Portage diversion down, it will get to 814. They promised they'd be doing that this week, so we'll see whether that happens."
