A cheque in the amount of $100,000 was presented to Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba at the annual McCain Clear Lake Golf Classic held at beautiful Riding Mountain National Park. This was the 22nd year for the golf tournament, bringing the total amount raised for this important charity to a remarkable $1.74 million.

160 golfers turned out for the event, many of whom have loyally attended every one of the 22 tournaments, which reflects the passion and commitment people have towards this important event, that supports families who need a home-away-from-home while their child is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

"We are truly thankful to our generous partners at McCain Foods Canada for hosting the McCain Clear Lake Golf Classic for an incredible 22 years, and for the $1.74 million donated since the inaugural tournament in 1996. We are forever grateful to McCain and all involved who continue supporting the RMHC Mission by Keeping Families Close™ when they need it most." says Wendy Galagan, CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba. All proceeds are being directed to the local Manitoba Chapter.

Leonard Birch, Event Chairman, says "I extend my sincere appreciation to all of you for your continued attendance and support of such a wonderful charity. For many of us that return year after year, it feels like an annual reunion of great friends with new memories and friendships made each year. This event is made possible through the support of McCain Foods Canada and by people like yourselves; corporate and individual sponsors as well as our faithful golfers who know the importance of family."

After the great day of golfing, everyone enjoyed a banquet at the Elkhorn Resort followed by a very special tribute for McCain employees Leonard Birch and Lorna Muirhead, who have organized the event for the entire 22 years it has been running. They were honoured for their dedication, commitment, energy and passion to the Clear Lake event which has seen ongoing success for this worthy cause year-over-year.

To wrap up the evening, the Top 10 teams each won a large prize item, with all other teams receiving a consolation gift of a BBQ utensil set.

This event is the longest running donor-run event for RMHC in Canada, and continues to be one of their top fundraisers, playing an integral role in family-centered health care. Plans are already underway for the 23rd Annual Clear Lake Golf Classic which will be held on June 12, 2018.
