If you think tomorrow's the deadline for this year's RSP contribution to count on your 2016 income tax return, you're wrong. It's actually Wednesday, March 1st.

Sandra Duchak of First Choice Income Tax in Portage la Prairie explains.

"We have sixty days after the new year," she says, "So if you haven't done it yet (made a contribution), you're pushing deadlines, that's for sure."

Duchak says they expect to see a few last-minute contributors in the office tomorrow and Wednesday.

"Usually, they try to bring us in a little bit earlier, so we have a chance to help them," she notes, "Also, it gives the banks a chance to get those receipts out. And of course, you need to have those receipts for the first sixty days of the following year, to put on your tax return. Even if you have made your contribution already, you have to wait for those receipts."
