Paddy Quiring is a grandmother who's riding a bicycle across Canada for charity. She stopped in Portage la Prairie on Tuesday on her way from Vancouver to Nova Scotia.

"We're Rwalking (pronounced "rocking") across the nation," explains Quiring. "We left April 13 and are arriving in Winnipeg in the next two days to do some fundraising and make some contact in the city locally. And then we're off to Nova Scotia and will complete the journey by September 23."

She says she's raising money for the Liver Foundation of Canada and Adult & Teen Challenge. Quiring notes it's both more challenging and fulfilling than what she thought, adding she's met some amazing people on her way and made some great relationships. She says everyone has a story and has been so supportive. Quiring notes it's all about helping community and relationships and turning people's pain into passion instead of getting into trouble all alone. She took on the effort after losing her husband last year to illness.

Quiring adds she's writing a book, compiling all her experiences in the trek, and explains it's all about the Kingdom of God first and helping people.

Walter Janzen is making the journey with her and taking photos for the book, and says they're people of faith, trusting for provisions along the way. They have a go-fund-me page at their website -- rwalkthenation.ca -- for the charities.
