There was a house fire on Dakota Tipi first nation Saturday afternoon.

At around 4 p.m. the Portage la Prairie Fire Department responded to a call about a grass fire near a garage in the First Nations Community. Nicholas Chaske says there was a small grass fire behind the garage when he arrived at work, but it quickly spread.

"I looked out the window and I seen that the garage was on fire over there, and from the garage it caught the balcony, then from the balcony to the inside of the house. It totally engullfed after that."

Fire crews arrived and the garage was fully involved, along with a shed, and the fire had also spread to the house. Four trucks responded along with Good Hope Colony for water hauling.
