A Manitoba meteorologist says there is a potential for severe weather Thursday, possibly including tornadoes. Scott Kehler says a warm, moist air mass is moving up from the United States and will collide with a strong jet stream from the west coast over southeast Saskatchewan. He outlines what we might expect from this system.

"Right now the main threat on Thursday evening in southern Manitoba looks to be hail and damaging winds as we go into the overnight period. Earlier on in the day though, on Thursday afternoon and evening, there might be a tornado risk in southeastern Saskatchewan and perhaps into western Manitoba as well. The risk that we're assigning this severe threat is moderate which is a mid-range risk. That means we're probably looking at a decent chance of severe weather over a fairly widespread area although, like any forecast, definitely subject to change. So we'll have to keep monitoring it to see how it does evolve. "

Kehler notes storm chasers are also closely watching the situation.
