People heard a reading from Grunthal Author Karen Emilson yesterday at the Portage Regional Library.

It was for her newest book 'Be Still The Water', which is a mix of fiction and non-fiction stories set in the RM of Siglunes Manitoba. Emilson explains.

"What I've done in 'Be Still The Waters' is I've taken true stories that have happened in small towns and communities. They have true things that happen that are just little vignettes, and I've taken all of those and pulled them together and I've made it fictional. My people are fictional, but a lot of the things that happened in the book were true things."

One story's based around the Siglunes Baseball Team.

"It was made up of just farm boys and their dads, and their cousins, and they were quite competitive. They played quite competitively and ended up being inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. So what I did was I got the games, and sort of how the team started, but of course I've fictionalized it because so many of the people that were there I can't ask questions."

Emilson lived in Siglunes for around 20 years and says she heard some great stories around different communities.
