Motorists are reminded to slow down when approaching construction zones.

Now is the time of the year when road crews are out and drivers need to use extra caution when approaching flag people and construction areas.

“People are pretty good at obeying the rules but there is always room for improvement” said Larry Halayko Executive Director of Construction and Maintenance with Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation.

He adds drivers need to watch for flag people, crews working and everybody in the area. If people need an incentive to slow down Halayko reminds them it can be costly if caught speeding in a construction zone.

“The fines are doubled and we do have designated construction zone signage. Everybody needs to be aware of that. We have men and women working out there and that is their workplace and drivers need to slow down and be aware.”
