The Portage la Prairie School Division's having an evening with the RCMP to help parents become more aware of social media, and its possible dangers.

"Social media is obviously something that's a great tool," says Superintendent Todd Cuddington. "It's like breathing right now. It's just something that every kid is doing. So, with that, of course, there comes some risk. I think parents sometimes need some guidance to know what to do as a parent to ensure their kids are safe."

He says the schools' liaison officer Constable Amber Storey organized the evening, and the Internet Child Exploitation Unit out of Winnipeg will be out. Cuddington says it takes place from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 on Thursday, April 27th at La Verendrye School, and everyone's welcome.

A bicycle will be raffled off for any students between 6 and 8 years-old who come with a parent or guardian.
