The Southport Bowl Grand Re-opening took place this week. After months of work on the facility, ceremonial balls were bowled down the lanes at 4:00 p.m.

Deanna Talbot is the director of business development at Southport and explains she is happy to have so much fun recreation under one roof at the Central Plains RecPlex. Not only that, the lanes now feature accessibility, glow-bowling, food services, TVs, electronic scoring and it will be licensed by mid-October.

Roberta Christianson's the vice chair of the Southport Board and stresses it was an easy decision to take over the operation of the facility.

"The board and the staff take responsibilities of the assets given to Southport by the federal government 25 years ago very seriously," says Christianson. "Every time we make a decision like this we make sure it meets our goals. For the refurbishment of this bowling facility, it was a no-brainer because we know we are a part of a broader community."

Portage la Prairie Mayor Irvine Ferris was in attendance and spoke to the impact this will have on the community.

"This is just another reason to come out to the Portage region," says Ferris. "It's just another thing that adds to our quality of life as a community."
