After having worked with the airport in Winnipeg as directing marketer for all commercial flying and airlines coming and going, Southport CEO Peggy May's spent a different and interesting five years in Southport. She says the training and flying military aircraft is a departure from the passenger aircraft business she was formerly involved with.

"All the customers at this airport are just as interesting and fascinating," May explains. "And it's been a great learning experience for me. It's all about relationships. I feel very lucky that I get to work at a place with all of those great people, and all of those great flying machines out there."

May says she's been CEO in Southport for five years, and her contract was originally for that period of time but they have longer termed plans currently in place. She explains that includes a strategic plan to secure a future aircrew training contract they really want to have in the community. May says there's no better place for it and believes it will become a reality.

Among the highlights of her time in Southport, May says a big one's the opening of the RecPlex last year with its Sawmill Tea and Coffee, and the Portage Daycare, noting it adds services that help military and community residents alike. She says they did several great capital projects, redid the airport apron, and have plans to build a new hangar. May adds she loves the new sign at the entrance to the community.

May notes she thought she'd miss the passengers with whom she worked in Winnipeg since it was all about customer experience. But she notes they have just as much customer experience in Southport as there was in the big city.
