A large portion of the 3 Canadian Forces Flight Training School takes place in Southport, and there's a risk it might not continue in the future. The RCAF is discussing whether or not they will form a one-site location for all crew training, and it could be Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. This means about 350 jobs could be lost in Southport. Premier Brain Pallister weighs in.

"We understand that this flight training this community had to organize 28 years ago to get here. We want to keep it here. It's a celebration of community, of comradeship, and of rising to challenges. That's what the people of this area do really well."

Peggy MaySouthport CEO Peggy May notes, "Today there is KF Aerospace who looks after 3CFFTS here and CAE that looks after the sites in Moose Jaw. We strategically place all of our funds, because we are not for profit. And any funds raised here from leasing or residential areas are all reinvested back into the site to make us the most modern and efficient facility possible. It's to provide all the services necessary for air crew training. We have great big blue open skies, and we think we're a perfect location. We don't believe we're at a large risk, but there is some. So, we make sure we are paying top attention to what is happening right now."

May adds Pallister addressed the issue at the RCAF Gala this past weekend.
