Yesterday, Southport held its' annual general meeting. It's been a record year for the non-profit organization, with annual revenues reaching 2.7 million dollars, their most profitable to-date.

CEO Peggy May tells us some of the highlights of the AGM.

"As a not-for-profit, it's really interesting because we do still strive to make money, but it's already invested back into the site," says May. "Right now for instance, we're looking at future development of runways, and reconditioning of runways. We're also looking at new flight tranining needs like a new hangar or a new mess at some point. So yes, we've had the best year ever."

She discusses some of the accomplishments and upcoming plans that make Southport so successful.

"We're in a really good financial position," says May. "We have a new storage unit area, we're building the new residential area called Centennaire South... There was lots of capital development on site. And we have new fibre [optics] coming onto the site, which is great in terms of technical needs, and any new business that's looking for development in that area. It's really great to have communication connectivity for them."

There will be 47 fibre optics cables installed all around Southport, allowing for faster upload and download speeds for businesses, as well as residential areas.

Other highlights announced were a new baseball diamond to be constructed, as well as the new renovations of the Mynarski building, and the new bowling alley currently under construction. A new Southport app is also in the works. It seems Southport is becoming an increasingly accessible hub for diverse activity for the Portage la Prairie region.

Noted at the meeting was currently 3,000 tickets sold for the upcoming Manitoba Air Show next weekend on July 7th and 8th.

Vic Gerden was introduced as the new board chair. Minister of Growth, Enterprise and Trade Blaine Pederson also kicked off the meeting with a statement solidifying Southport's achievements.
