Manitoba Public Insurance is encouraging drivers to slow down during peak icy hours.

"We know the roads are extremely slippery and icy due to the weather conditions with all the melting and the freezing," says MPI Spokesperson Brian Smiley. "The biggest message we can send to all motorists is to drive to the road conditions. Slow down so you can arrive at your destination safely."

"What we've been seeing is warm temps in the day, and once they get into the minus temperatures we'll see some freezing," adds Smiley. "So usually around dusk or dawn the roads are ice, again drive to conditions, and speed limits are set for ideal conditions. I would suggest the road conditions are far from ideal."

Smiley adds MPI hasn't run any reports or received any collision data, but typically they see motorists slowing down or just staying off the roads altogether.
