The people in the RM of St. Laurent are hoping to get back to some form of normality back as they continue to deal with high water levels on Shoal Lake.

That's from Reeve Cheryl Smith who says things would change if the Province cleaned out the Grassmere Drain. That would alleviate high water levels on Shoal Lake which is affecting life for many in the RM.

"The ultimate goal is to get the provincial roads, which are the 518 and the 415, reinstated. We're hopeful the Province will look after those two roads, and bring them back to what they were because they connect a lot of our communities and is vital for livelihood out there."

Smith says a lot of businesses interact between Highway 6 and Highway 7, as they're the main connections between towns and there are a lot of people using them. She feels if the drain is cleaned out and the water levels go down, those roads will go back to what they were before the flood.

"There are quite a few people living in those areas and it hits the RM of St. Laurent, but it also hits Woodlands and Armstrong," adds Smith. "It hits quite a few farmers, bus routes, people doing business like the masonry business or hauling hay, and all of that adds to costs for everyone. So I think it's vital they're open so life can resume like it was before 2009."
