Update:

A driver was charged for proceeding before it is safe to do so after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 at the Highway 34 intersection near Austin yesterday, the RCMP says.

Police say witnesses to the collision report that the male driver, 49-years-old, entered the flow of traffic on Highway 1, but did so into the path of the oncoming vehicle. He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for proceeding before it is safe to do so, the fine for which is $175.30.

The RCMP says emergency crews called to the scene of the collision found occupants of both vehicles in need of medical assistance.

A female passenger was transported by STARS air ambulance to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The male drivers of the vehicles were transported to Portage General Hospital via ambulance for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The RCMP says neither alcohol or speed are considered to be factors in this collision.

An Austin Fire Department official says an emergency call came in at 3:01 p.m. RCMP and EMS were also on scene.

There's no word on the extent of injuries or the number of passengers involved.
