Portage la Prairie's population is just slightly younger than it was five years ago.

Age data released by Statistics Canada yesterday from the 2016 census says the city of Portage la Prairie has an average age of 40.6, just slightly younger than 40.8 in 2011. The average age in Manitoba is 39.2, while the national average is 41.

A further breakdown of age demographics in the Statistics Canada report explains 19.5 per cent of Portage is 0-14 years old, 61.7 per cent is 15-64 years old, 18.7 per cent is 65 and older, and 3.3 per cent is over 85 years old.
