The Town of Stonewall's feeling a boost thanks to a few years of rising construction. That's according to Mayor Lockie McLean who says construction starts in total are roughly up 30 per cent year-after-year.

"That's awesome for Stonewall because it means the taxes added this year due to new construction will really be welcomed to the budget," says McLean. "When we made the budget earlier this year we looked at last year's in terms of what we'd say the taxes added would be and what we budgeted on. So we know now looking at it that we're going to have a lot more income coming in this year."

McLean says housing starts have also been on the rise. He says the extra funds will allow them to build a healthy surplus at the end of the year.

"Like any good government should do, we want to make sure we have that healthy surplus when we finish the year and make sure we don't spend all the tax dollars coming in. It looks like that's going to happen because there's a lot of construction activity around Stonewall."
