Portage Community Revitalization Corporation's had some summer help from one of our local students. Abby Davidson came onboard as Community Engagement Assistant. She outlines what she's experienced.

"Basically, I think my position was for about eight weeks," says Davidson. "I help out around the office with whatever they need help with. The Dirt Dash was coming up. So, I made a lot of posters and wrote down all of the participants and volunteers. I've been helping a lot out with Bear Clan."

She says what drew her to get involved was the nature of the organization's efforts in the community, noting the diversity in Portage makes that so important. Davidson says she feels it brings everybody together and provides that sense of community.

"I feel like it's helping a lot with comprehension, writing and reading," she says, describing what she's taking away from the experience. "I feel like I've gained some skills in even talking with people and calling people on the phone."
