It's the Sunset Palliative Care Fundraiser Barbecue Friday at the Co-op Food Store in Portage la Prairie.

Volunteer Coordinator Aldene Moroz says it's way more than just a barbecue.

"Businesses have donated fabulous prizes, it's extraordinary for the rainbow auction we're having. We have 6 grand prizes that are worth approximately $300 each and more. As well as we have 39 group prizes. So it gives people many opportunities to win, and support this barbecue, not just buying a hamburger, hot dog or a cheeseburger."

Moroz says it's an important fundraiser for volunteers, and health care workers.

"This is the one fundraiser that raises the funds that we are able to send volunteers from Sunset, as well as 8 health care workers in the Portage community to an annual training session in Winnipeg. It's an annual conference that takes place every year. By all accounts, the health care workers that go come back with many ideas and they're able to pass it on to the people they work with."

The barbecue starts at 11:30 a.m.
